LTER-Based Professional Development for K-12 teachers: opportunities for collaboration and planning for the future

Working Group Reports

LTER-based professional development programs and resources hold tremendous promise for contributing to environmental science literacy. A recent inventory of Schoolyard LTER programs reported that 17 sites conducted professional development for teachers in 2010 (see attached document). We are proposing that the LTER education group offer one working group session that focuses on LTER-based professional development (PD). This session will serve as a brainstorming session to discuss the needs for professional development both regionally and nationally and which of these needs can we respond to as LTER sites and as a LTER network.  This working group will set up the participants to plan cross-site PD collaborations that draw on unique strengths of the LTER network and provide next steps for the LTER SIP (also attached).
