SCALER: Scale, consumers and lotic ecosystem rates

Working Group Reports

This will be a workshop on methods for the SCALER project. The project is planned to be performed at or near 5 LTER stream sites (ARC, BNZ, CWT,KNZ, LUQ), and is a precursor for STREON. The approach is to measure metabolism and ammonium uptake with and without consumers at the decimeter and stream reach scales.  We will attempt to scale from decimeters to reaches, as well as from reaches to watersheds.  Models will be used to scale up, and the watershed-level predictions will be tested by synoptic sampling.

STREON is the Stream Experimental and Observational Network affiliated with 10 NEON sites.  Our project will help understand the ability to make regional predictions from STREON results. The goal of this workshop will be to finalize methods based on results from preliminary experiments run before the workshop.  The group welcomes outside participants, but project participants will have priority if space is limited.

Please note that we really want to use Monday as some of our participants cannot attend after Monday. Sorry to be a pain in the butt. This is an open meeting, but I doubt anybody else will want to come. Also, if possible, please do not cross-schedule with Hydrologic Variability across Climatically, Geologically, and Morphologically Similar Watersheds.
