LTER Undergraduate Education: Innovations and Cross-Site Opportunities

Working Group Reports

Sites throughout the LTER network educate and/or employ undergraduate students in ecological research and data analysis. This working group will provide a novel platform to share best practices, forge cross-site collaborations, and explore external programs and funding opportunities to better serve this cohort.  The discussion will be informed by results from a higher education survey distributed to LTER site education representatives in winter 2012. A short panel discussion will include ideas for 1) a cross-site REU student exchange program, 2) long-term impacts assessment and social media outreach with program alumni, and 3) data-driven curricular innovation in partnership with organizations such as the National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC).
