This poster explains some of the graduate research efforts at the Coweeta LTER that attempt to integrate social and ecological elements into research. Though there have been broader site-wide attempts to do integrative work, some individual graduate students' projects are situated explicitly at this divide. Our topics include local environmental policy; residents' valuation and use of streams; bird watching community group participation in scientific research; and the development of a regionally specific, land owner-friendly stream evaluation tool. Our research highlights the importance, challenges, and potential of place-based interdisciplinary research.
